Hello ladies! I'm sure that most of you are well on your way to earning all of the requirements for rank advancement. In case you need another merit badge or two, I am offering several classes online via Zoom. Class sizes are small in order to keep the level of participation and involvement high. They are slated to run three hours with a break and will soon be listed on the council's website, and I know that people from around the country will jump at the opportunity to sign up (I've had people from Puerto Rico, Texas, California, New York, Washington, and other states). There's no fees and registration is super simple. It's worth considering just so you can see how long my hair is.

There are many merit badge classes online that the council is offering on their Scouting at Home page. The merit badge courses are listed below, and there are other activities and awards that can be earned online; check out the council's website for more information. Our troop has leaders that are willing to teach the following merit badges. They can be contacted for individual sessions. Some open group sessions are in the list below, and you could request a special class just for our troop. Bolded items are required for Eagle.
Don't see one that you want to do? Contact our advancement chair and ask if there's any merit badge counselors that are willing to teach the ones you want. We have a lot of leaders at our disposal, and bunches of other merit badge counselors nearby that could be called on.

Merit badges aren't your thing? How about wearing a medal at the next Court of Honor? The BSA's Nova and Supernova awards focus on learning STEM skills with experiments. The challenges that each Nova award poses are typically able to be met in an afternoon by watching videos, planning and conducting an experiment, then summarizing the results and discussing it with a counselor. After you earn three of the Nova awards, you can earn the Supernova medal. Very few of these are handed out and they are stunning awards. Tyler Akins is a Nova counselor and Supernova mentor and can get you started on the path.
Still would prefer something different? The Duke of Edinburgh award is an internationally recognized award that has just started handing out awards in the United States. It focuses on a project that has to be worked on an hour a week for several weeks, an expedition, and other surmountable challenges. You take it at your own pace and there's a team of people to help you along the way. I'm sure we can talk Vicki Jurek into hosting a session that would provide all of the information you need - contact Tyler Akins (a registered Award leader) if you'd like that informational session or if you'd want to start on your own Award.
