If you are bored, need a break from school, or passionate about improving your life today or just enjoy a good video or two, please watch these two videos.
The first is a 10 minute TED talk that is really amazing. I promise it is not like a school lecture. The second is a bunch of scouts like you who put on a pretty good show. You may want to skip to the 6 minute mark where the real fun begins. Have fun, be safe, see you soon! https://youtu.be/YrZTho_o_is https://bsa-la.org/ssl/#1586187673713-660979e3-e46c Mike Lawrance

The actual distance and means of transportation aren't important (no motorized vehicles), just get outside and adjust to your needs. If you sign up for the event, you will receive a patch for participating.
Patches available if you sign up through the "ticket link" for $5 per patch but not a requirement to participate. Learn more and register at Northern Star Scouting. Each weekday at 2:00 pm (central time), the editors of Boys' Life share articles, jokes, and fun facts Scouts and their families will love!
Take your kids on a #TrekAt2 without leaving your house Want to spend time watching movies and shows with friends, but can't go out?
NetflixParty lets you watch a movie in your house and synchronize it with your friends around the world. Built-in live chat. When you go on a hike, pick up trash along the way. Weigh it when you get back home and email admin@troop283girls.net to have it count towards your patrol's total. The patrol with the most trash collected will receive a deluxe ice cream sundae party for everyone, once we can meet in person again. If the troop is able to collect a ton of trash, which is 100 pounds of garbage per Scout, everyone gets a pizza party.

There are many merit badge classes online that the council is offering on their Scouting at Home page. The merit badge courses are listed below, and there are other activities and awards that can be earned online; check out the council's website for more information. Our troop has leaders that are willing to teach the following merit badges. They can be contacted for individual sessions. Some open group sessions are in the list below, and you could request a special class just for our troop. Bolded items are required for Eagle.
Don't see one that you want to do? Contact our advancement chair and ask if there's any merit badge counselors that are willing to teach the ones you want. We have a lot of leaders at our disposal, and bunches of other merit badge counselors nearby that could be called on.
Other Awards
Merit badges aren't your thing? How about wearing a medal at the next Court of Honor? The BSA's Nova and Supernova awards focus on learning STEM skills with experiments. The challenges that each Nova award poses are typically able to be met in an afternoon by watching videos, planning and conducting an experiment, then summarizing the results and discussing it with a counselor. After you earn three of the Nova awards, you can earn the Supernova medal. Very few of these are handed out and they are stunning awards. Tyler Akins is a Nova counselor and Supernova mentor and can get you started on the path.
Still would prefer something different? The Duke of Edinburgh award is an internationally recognized award that has just started handing out awards in the United States. It focuses on a project that has to be worked on an hour a week for several weeks, an expedition, and other surmountable challenges. You take it at your own pace and there's a team of people to help you along the way. I'm sure we can talk Vicki Jurek into hosting a session that would provide all of the information you need - contact Tyler Akins (a registered Award leader) if you'd like that informational session or if you'd want to start on your own Award.

Hello,
I would assume most of you are probably bored out of your minds so... I found these great 30 day plans for you guys to do, if you choose. It lays out a plan for Scout, tenderfoot, second class, and first class ranks that you can do over the next 30 days. It is super manageable and a great way to advance when we can’t meet in person. I am not sure exactly how we can do sign-offs yet but, I was thinking we could do a video chat or you could send me a video of you completing each requirement. If we are going to do this I am going to have to trust that you actually know what you are doing. When we can finally meet in person for me to sign your books, don’t be surprised if I ask a few questions to be sure you know what your doing/talking about. This is a great opportunity to advance and to do it in the comfort of your own home. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Ellie Lawrance Stuck at home?
